Court dismisses complaints by Mutua’s Chap Chap party to leave Azimio
A Nairobi court has thrown out complaints by the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party directing it to utilise dispute resolution procedures under coalition agreement.
Governor Alfred Mutua’s led party’s complaint was dismissed by the tribunal as it was filed too prematurely.
“Before moving to the tribunal, MCC should have used the internal dispute resolution channels first,” stated the Political Party dispute tribunal.
Mutua announced yesterday that he had severed connections with the Azimio One Kenya Alliance camp, claiming that his MCC party had been kept in the dark about internal affairs and had yet to access or understand the coalition agreement.
The Machakos governor told the reporters at a Nairobi hotel that he finalized the deal on Sunday night and that he has copies of the agreement, “unlike in Azimio.”
“We have joined Kenya Kwanza, the coalition led by Deputy President William Ruto and this is where we feel safe,” he told a news conference.
Mutua, who has been criticized since defecting to Kenya Kwanza, the political party of Deputy President William Ruto, now asks Azimio why he is the focus of debate if his move was so little.
“If it was inconsequential, why are you discussing me, if my move was not that important then why are you talking about me?” he posed, during an interview with a local tv station today.
Azimio leaders have reassured supporters that the party is still on pace to win the presidency on August 9.
Mutua remarked on Azimio’s arrogance, noting that they think they can “control the population,” and warned them that if they detest other leaders, they will fall.
