Court decline to grant DCI access to Matiangi’s CCTV cameras
The court has declined to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) access to CCTV footages of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i following claims of police raid at the latter’s Karen residence.
The DCI sought orders from the court saying it wanted to identify the persons involved in the alleged raid following claims that they were police officers.
Milimani Magistrate Wandia Nyamu however directed the DCI to serve the private security firm Bob Morgan Security Limited which installed and controls the CCTV cameras at Matiang’i home with the application.
The DCI had denied that officers were engaged in the alleged raid and stated that it was looking into a case of a robbery attempt at the property.
The DCI asked the court to compel the private security company manager or his agents to allow the investigators to extract the footage for the period between 6pm on February 8 and midday February 9, 2023.
This follows claims by the former Interior CS that elite police officers raided his Karen home at night.
The alleged move was condemned by political leaders led by opposition leader Raila Odinga who accused President William Ruto of witch-hunt saying they are ready to defend any Kenyan including Matiang’i from vindictive measures by the current administration.
