Court bars Joho from transacting any money through his Stanbic account

The high court has temporarily stopped Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho from transacting any money through his CFC Stanbic Bank account

High court Judge Hedwig Ongundi issued the order until Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) completes tax returns assessment on the bank account.

The Judge ruled that governor should not withdraw any funds from the account for a period of 30 days.

Justice Ongundi issued the order following an application by Kenya Revenue Authority seeking to preserve the money on the basis that the governor has never filed tax returns from the year 2014.

KRA, through lawyer Sylvester Okello told justice  Ongundi that  the governor filed the tax returns for the years 2008- 2013 and that he returned nil income for all  the years except 2010.

The lawyer argued that despite declaring nil tax returns the governor is the registered owner of two high end motor vehicle Rolls Royce KBR001R and Posche Cayenne KCC001J.
