Counties in the zoned area allowed to worship with maximum of 15 people

Places of worship within the disease infected areas have been allowed to operate but not more than 15  people for the purposes of recording live transmission services.

In a statement, Interior Cabinet Secretary reiterated that in the areas where the total restriction has been imposed, they will revert to online worship.

The counties are Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, and Nakuru.

However, counties outside the disease infected area are allowed to have one- third capacity in house worship.

“The counties outside the disease infected area are allowed to have one-third capacity in house worship with strict adherence to the restrictions issued by the Ministry of Health protocols,” reads the statement.

On March 26, President Uhuru Kenyatta banned in-person worship by the Inter-Faith Council in the five counties to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The Church and Clergy Association of Kenya had earlier wanted the government to reconsider its decision to close churches in the disease infested zoned Counties.

The Association Chairman Bishop Hudson Ndeda said the phased reopening of church had worked well arguing that the Church had religiously observed the protocols set by the Ministry of Health.

“The political gatherings witnessed in the country in the last few months escalated the spread of the virus while the governments failure to monitor its borders facilitated the entry of the new variant,” said Ndenda.

Ndeda wanted the government to review its Public Oder no. 2 of 2021 on Covid-19 saying the church shouldn’t bear the blunt of other peoples’ mistakes.

He said Kenyans were grateful with the phased reopening of churches adding that the Church had improvised ways to avoid physical contact and can’t there be blamed for the increase in numbers during the third wave.
