Controversial DP Ruto’s Turkish ally Harun Aydin deported
Harun Aydin, the controversial Turkish investor and close ally of Deputy President William Ruto has been deported to his home country in Turkey.
Aydin, who was arrested on Saturday after jetting back from Uganda on a chartered flight by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) over alleged terror financing claims, was to be arraigned at Kahawa Anti-Terrorism Law Court but he was controversially deported at dawn today.
Confirming his deportation, lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said the government realised it can’t sustain a criminal case.
“How can you arrest someone from the street everyday and say that he has financed terrorism, then as a government you don’t have the guts to bring him to court so that you can see that process through. It shows how shameless and, this is so unfortunate, of how our government is,” he said.
Abdullahi has vowed to challenge Aydin’s deportation in court adding that deportation is done according to a certain procedure and laws.
He further stated that the government can’t just deport someone cause is a friend to the Deputy President.
“…we will bring him back to the country whether this year or next year, it doesn’t matter. We will ventilate his grievances through the court system,” he said.
Aydin was to be part delegation accompanying the DP to Uganda but the latter was not cleared to fly out of the country.
