Construction of the Konza security command centre commences

The national government has officiated the ground-breaking ceremony of the Konza Security Command Centre.
The ceremony was yesterday officiated by, Cabinet Secretaries , Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology Innovation and Youth Affairs, Mr. Joe Mucheru, EGH and Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during the event, Mucheru described the Konza Security Command Centre as a critical project that will go a long way in ensuring the security of investors, investments, future inhabitants of the city as well as the city’s operations.
“We need to give confidence to investors keen on establishing their presence in the city by putting in place sound physical and cyber security structures, processes and systems. Commencement of the construction of this centre is therefore, a major step, towards this purpose as it will enable smooth and efficient security operations within the Technopolis.”, said the CS.
He said that without guaranteed security, the realization of the Konza Technopolis dream will be confronted with challenges of attracting investors into the city.
Further, he noted that as Kenya’s first publicly funded smart city, Konza Technopolis is setting the best example for future city developments.
“The Technopolis is playing an important role in the adoption of the country’s ICT infrastructure and once complete, I am certain, it will become Kenya’s ‘ICT headquarters’ as envisioned,” Mucheru said.
Matiang’i, described the Konza Security Command Centre as a major milestone towards setting security standards in Kenya and the region.
He reaffirmed his personal, as well as the government’s support towards the actualization of the Konza Technopolis objectives, which the Cs said, aimed at ensuring the country’s accelerated socio-economic development through attracting investors whose safety must be assured .
The CS also said that creation of a conducive environment is key in this projects success which will ensure more investors are attracted to-set up their business there.
Those present during the event included Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Ms. Winnie Guchu, the Inspector General -National Police Services, Mr. Hilary Mutyambai, Arch Dr. Reuben, Mutiso, Chairman, Konza Technopolis Development Authority; Eng. John Tanui, CEO, Konza Technopolis, Local leaders, Makueni and Machakos County Government representatives, Government Officials among others.
Earlier on, Eng. John Tanui, CEO, Konza Technopolis took the team through a presentation of the Technopolis and at the end of the visit the Team addressed a Media briefing after planting trees .
