London recalls Marriott, appoint Neil as new High Commissioner to Nairobi
The United Kingdom has ended diplomatic tour of duty of UK Ambassador to Kenya Jane Marriott and appointed seasoned diplomat Neil Wigan Obe to succeed her effective July this year.
Marriott has served as the UK High Commissioner to Nairobi for four years.
“After four amazing years, my time in Kenya is up in June. I will miss Kenya and Kenyans enormously,” Jane Marriott said in a tweet.
The outgoing High Commissioner to Kenya will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment.
“Neil Wigan Obe has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya in succession to Jane Marriott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Wigan will take up his appointment during July 2023.” A quick dispatch by UK High Commission in Nairobi read in part.
Wigan was appointed UK’s Ambassador to Israel in June 2019, a role he has been serving to date.
He is also a former UK ambassador to Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He previously worked as the Director for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Arab Israel and North Africa Group.
Wigan also served as First Secretary and Political Section in Israel.
