Five more officers suspected of the abduction of two Indian citizens arrested
There was tension at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the arrest of five more officers from the defunct Special Service Unit (SSU) in connection to the ongoing probe on the alleged abduction of two Indian citizens and their taxi driver.
Through a notice, the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) stated that Corporals Joseph Mwenda Mbaya and David Chepcheng Kipsoi alongside Constables Stephen Luseno Matunda, Paul Njogu Muriithi and Simon Muhunga Gikonyo were arrested today at the IAU headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
“They are being investigated for the offences of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code and abduction contrary to Section 254 of the Penal Code,” the notice stated.
They are currently held at the Industrial Area Police Station awaiting arraignment today.
Their arrest follows court orders that IAU is indeed capable of investigating the abduction case of the two Indian Citizens and their taxi driver.
Kahawa Law Courts Chief Magistrate Diana Mochache dismissed preliminary objection that challenged IAU’s capacity to investigate the case.
IAU requested 30 days to probe the case and take DNA tests citing that government officials including the police had interfered with the process.
