Sirisia MP John Waluke surrenders to police to begin 67-year jail term
Embattled Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke has surrendered himself to the authorities to begin his 67 years’ jail term after court upheld his jail sentence over fraud charges.
He took himself to the Milimani Law Courts today afternoon where he was detained at the facility’s cells awaiting transfer to prison.
Waluke was yesterday ordered to pay the Sh1 billion fine or serve the prescribed jail term after he was found guilty of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Sh297 million in June 2020.
Justice Esther Maina in her ruling stated that the prosecution proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Waluke took part in the NCPB fraud.
“The sentences were not excessive. They are within the law. Conviction and sentences affirmed,” the judge said.
According to the judge, Waluke and his business partner Grace Wakhungu will have to pay the fines or serve the sentences.
Wakhungu was sentenced to 69 years in prison.
The MP, who was out on appeal, secured re-election in the August 9, 2022 Sirisia parliamentary polls.
