High Court blocks Ole Kenta’s removal as Jubilee Secretary General

Justice Janet Mulwa, sitting at the Milimani High Court, issued the interim orders today, Monday, September 21, 2026 after certifying as urgent a notice of motion filed by the Jubilee Party of Kenya and Kenta against the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) and former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.

The High Court has temporarily halted the removal of Moitalel Ole Kenta as Jubilee Party Secretary General, allowing him to remain in office pending the hearing and determination of a case challenging his position.

The judge granted, on an interim basis, prayer three of the application, effectively preserving Kenta’s position until the court hears and determines the substantive application.

The order comes after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) nullified Kenta’s appointment as Jubilee Secretary General earlier this month.

The tribunal ruled that Kenta was not a registered member of Jubilee Party when he was nominated and appointed to the position.

It consequently declared his appointment, and the subsequent recognition of the appointment, unlawful and void.

Wambugu had challenged changes made to the Jubilee Party leadership as well as their recognition by the ORPP, triggering the dispute that has now moved to the High Court.

Monday’s order temporarily changes the position created by the tribunal’s decision, with Kenta allowed to continue performing his duties as Secretary General as the High Court considers the challenge.

Justice Mulwa has issued strict timelines for the parties ahead of the inter partes hearing.

The respondents have been given seven days from the date of service to file and exchange their responses, while the applicants have a similar seven-day period to file any further affidavits and submissions.

The respondents will thereafter have seven days from service to file and exchange their submissions.
