7 suspects in ex-Kabete MP George Muchai’s murder to know fate on December 30
Seven suspects charged in the robbery with violence case linked to the apparent execution of former Kabete legislator George Muchai will know their fate on December 30, 2025 after a Nairobi court deferred delivery of judgment.
The case came up before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina for judgment, but the court was unable to proceed as planned.
Magistrate Onyina said he had intended to conclude the matter before the Christmas break, but a heavy workload prevented him from finalising the judgment in time.
The court consequently fixed December 30, 2025, as the date when the ruling will be delivered, bringing to a close a trial that has spanned several years.
The accused include; Erick Muyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustapha Kimani, Stephen Astiva, Jane Wanjiru, Margaret Njeri and Simon Wambugu closed their defence in October 2025 and have since been awaiting the court’s determination.
They are charged with robbery with violence and the murder of Muchai, his two bodyguards and a driver in an attack that occurred along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, on the night of February 6 and the early hours of February 7, 2015. The victims include bodyguards Samuel Kalikia and Samuel Matanta, and driver Stephen Wambugu.
Prosecutors allege that during the incident, the accused also robbed Michael Gituto of a motor vehicle and other personal belongings valued at Sh416,000.
In 2023, the court ruled that the suspects had a case to answer after finding that the prosecution had established a prima facie case. Then, trial magistrate Roseline Oganyo said the decision was reached after analysing evidence from 36 prosecution witnesses.
The December 30 ruling is expected to finally determine the culpability of the accused in one of Kenya’s most high-profile robbery with violence cases.
