Raila arrive at Milimani Law Courts to file petition against Ruto’s win
Azimio One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua have made their way to the Supreme Court to file a petition challenging the declaration of William Ruto as President-elect by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The duo, accompanied by Kalonzo Musyoka, arrived at the Supreme Court sub-registry at Milimani Law courts today in the afternoon.
They lodged the petition and voluminous documentary evidence in a lorry that contained 39 volumes of the petition.
The documents packed were quickly offloaded and taken to the Registry office.
The documents include 459 Form 34Cs, 34As and 34Bs and multiple affidavits of witnesses.
The Azimio team led by Odinga and Karua intend to use evidence availed at the apex court to prove how the just concluded presidential election conducted by IEBC was a sham and that it was marred by irregularities and illegalities.
Azimio’s legal team led by senior counsel James Orengo and Paul Mwangi described the General Election as a sham, saying they were confident that the 39-volume documents submitted to the Supreme Court will prove the same.
Odinga and his Azimio bandwagon are expected to serve respondents within one day, who will then have four days to file their responses.
The case will then be heard and determined by September 4, 2022.
This is Raila’s fifth time running and third time challenging his loss in presidential elections through the Supreme Court has filed a case after the last two elections in 2013 and 2017.
