DP Gachagua flag off second consignment of subsidised fertiliser

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has waved off the second consignment of the 88,000 metric tonnes of NPK subsidised fertiliser today at the Syokimau Nairobi Freight Terminus.

A total of 62 trucks, each carrying at least 100 bags took off at the terminus to respective factories.

“We made a pledge to Kenyans that within one year, farmers will earn from their sweat and get compensated for their work,” Gachagua said.

The shipment is destined to smallholder tea growers across the country.

The second in command flagged off the first shipment of the subsidised fertiliser worth Sh3.55 billion on September 22.

According to him, the government intends to give farmers in the country 1.4 million sacks of fertiliser.

Following President William Ruto’s directives, fertiliser will henceforth be sold for Sh3,500 per 50kg bag instead of Sh6,500.
