Kenya, Spain sign three MoU on trade, health and education
Kenya and Spain have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) anchored on trade, health and education.
This is after President William Ruto and other State officials today had a meeting and joint press conference with Spain envoy lead by Prime Minister Petro Sanchez at State House, Nairobi.
The move will increase cooperation between the two countries at bilateral and multi-lateral levels rooting for closer trade ties.
“Kenya welcomes the interest of Spanish companies in various sectors including tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, water management and renewable energy. This is the first visit to Kenya by a President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 57 years ago,” Ruto said.
Ruto assured Spanish investors that Kenya will resolve to bolster bilateral and multilateral collaboration with Spain and urged them to take advantage of economic possibilities in the nation.
The two nations decided to establish an ongoing conversation based on shared values and guiding principles.
“As part of efforts towards stronger ties between Kenya and Spain. We commit to strengthen economic and investment relations between our countries and appreciate that bilateral flows have shown a very positive growth trend over the last decade,” said Ruto.
On his part, Sánchez stated that Spain’s foreign policy continues to place a high focus on Africa.
“We have agreed to develop a broad bilateral agenda, fostering political, economic and cultural cooperation,” said Sanchez.
The two Heads of State also commended the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which aims to alleviate the global food crisis, and voiced concern about the growing global food crisis brought on by the prolonged drought.
“We express our support and welcome the Black Sea Grain Initiative – among other similar initiatives by Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, aimed at addressing the global food crisis,” Ruto observed.
They stated that the two nations have an unwavering commitment to the goals and objectives outlined in the United Nations Charter as well as an international and multilateral order based on rules.
“We affirm our support to the United Nations in dealing with global challenges and threats after the painful effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and express our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda,” stated Ruto.
The two government representatives agreed to continue cooperating in the fight against terrorism, noting that it was the primary factor contributing to global instability and supply chain vulnerability.
