Shujaa pooled alongside Uganda, Australia in Commonwealth Games
Kenya’s national rugby sevens team Shujaa has been pooled alongside 2014 silver medallists Australia, Jamaica, and rivals Uganda in the upcoming Commonwealth Games scheduled for Birmingham.
Shujaa will now seek revenge for their loss to Uganda in the games reserved for July 29 to 31 at Coventry Stadium in England.
The Damian McGrath charges lost to Uganda 22-12 in the semi-finals of the Africa Rugby Sevens Cup in Kampala on April 24 this year.
However, the national teams brushed off the loss to claim a podium finish with a bronze medal beating Zambia 19-12 in the event that doubled up as the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens Africa qualifier.
The Kenya and Uganda rugby rivalry dates back to their fans being at loggerheads with each over bragging rights.
Recently Uganda posted positive results to claim victory in the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens in Uganda while on the other side Kenya whitewashed their rivals in the Rugby Africa Men’s Cup in France.
The tournament group matches will be held on 29 and 30 July with semi-finals, play-offs, and medal matches to be played on Sunday 31 July.
