Ruto kicks off five-day tour of Nairobi

President William Ruto has embarked on a five-day working tour in Nairobi today in a move to popularize his pact with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
During the tour, Ruto is expected to launch projects in some of the constituencies in the city and meet grassroots leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
It is not clear whether the head of state shall be joined by the former Prime Minister, but ODM elected Members of Parliament have been briefed to join Ruto.
The president started his tour in Kamukunji where he opened Kamukunji Technical and Vocational College this morning.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said Ruto shall be launching projects in line with the Bottom Up-Economic Agenda ranging from affordable housing, education, TVETS, roads, hospitals among others.
“It will be a development tour with the President expected to Commission and Launch projects in line with the Bottom Up-Economic Agenda,” Hussein stated.
Nairobi has been an ODM grip with most of its Members of Parliament having been elected under the ODM party, being the same as the City County Assembly where his party is the majority.
President Ruto’s tour is expected to set the tone ahead of the 2027 General Elections, even as politicians try to align with different formations.
The tour also comes days after Raila endorsed the current City governor, Johnson Sakaja, for his second term as the city administrator.
Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya last month during the interdenominational prayer service that was organized for him (Raila) by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Women’s Chapter ahead of the AUC polls, Raila endorsed Sakaja to take care of his political affairs in Nairobi in his absentia.
The former Prime Minister referred to Sakaja as his son, noting that he wanted Nairobi to remain steadfast under the leadership of the first term city governor as he headed to AUC, where he failed.
Speaking at the same event, Makadara MP George Aladwa and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who is the ODM National Chairperson, urged the City governor to exit President William Ruto’s UDA and join the Orange party.
Sakaja hinted at joining the ODM party.
Sakaja promised that he would think about the proposal and hold a meeting with ODM leaders in Nairobi but is yet to do so.
