Ford-Kenya’s Martin Wanyonyi wins Webuye East MP seat becoming first person elected with albinism
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared Ford Kenya party candidate Martin Wanyonyi the winner of the Webuye East Member of Parliament in the just concluded polls.
The MP-elect becomes the first person with albinism to be elected through the ballot in Kenya, after clinching the Webuye East Parliamentary seat garnering a total of 12,864 votes.
Addressing the press after being declared the winner, Wanyonyi acknowledged that this election is historic as it is a first for persons with albinism.
“I thank the peope of Webuye East for the confidence and trust they bestowed upon me. I want to assure my people that we are ready, determined and committed to deliver every promise I made during my campaign trail,” said Wanyonyi.
Wanyonyi is now set to succeed the outgoing MP Alfred Sambu who was elected on ODM but did not defend his seat in the just concluded elections.
