KANU delegates have unanimously endorsed Party leader Gideon Moi for the presidency in 2022 General Elections.
The decision was read out by KANU’s Secretary-General Nick Salat in a conference held at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
“Thus special delegates resolve as that Gideon Moi is hereby nominated as the Presidential candidate for the 2022 General,” Salat said.
The delegates said they’ve allowed Moi to engage other political leaders as the 2022 race for presidency takes shape.
Salat urged other political parties to support KANU in the race for presidency, saying the political outfit has supported other parties in three previous general elections.
Further, he urged delegates to market the party, declaring that the independence party is back.
On his part, Moi affirmed that KANU is here to reclaim its position at the top echelon of the country’s top leadership.
“As we look at the pivotal moments in Kenya’s history KANU towers above the rest… KANU was that party that provided Kenya with 38 years of peace and stability, KANU was the party that ensured two peaceful transitions of presidencies,” he said.
“Today I want to declare that our half-time is over and we are back! The game to do is different, lazima form ikuwe different.”
Moi said he will soon roll out his manifesto, highlighting how he intends to economically empower Kenyans and combat graft.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance leaders Wiper Party leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi attended the ceremony.
