Two sentenced to life imprisonment after found guilty of defiling seven-year-old girl

A Kabarnet court has sentenced two men from Kalabata village in Baringo North to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of defiling a seven-year-old girl.

In her ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Purity Koskey said the prosecution had successfully presented evidence to the court, proving the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

The convicts were neighbors of the victim and worked as casual laborers at her grandmother’s home, and committed the offenses on multiple occasions in February this year.

The abuse left the girl with severe physical injuries and long-term psychological trauma, making her frightened of returning to her grandmother’s residence.

The prosecution presented five witnesses, including the minor, as well as medical reports and other crucial evidence to back up the charges and confirm the offense of defilement.

”This conviction reflects the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution’s continuous commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and providing justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence,” the ODPP stated after the ruling.

Cases of assault, defilement and rape have been highly reported in the recent times in Baringo.

Last month, Senior Principal Magistrate Purity Rugut Koskey sentenced a 42-year-old man from Bepyemit Village of Kabartonjo, Baringo County after he was found guilty of defiling his eight-year-old daughter.

The prosecution, which was led by Counsel Collins Ogutu, narrated to the court that the offence occurred on multiple occasions in December last year.

The accused, the child’s biological father, visited the victim’s mother under the pretext of taking the child out to buy slippers.

He then spent the night with the minor at his rented residence in Kabartonjo, where the crime was committed.

Prosecution presented six witnesses, including the minor, and relied on critical medical and forensic evidence that corroborated the allegations and established the offence of incest.
