The father to Corporal Caroline Kangogo has disputed claims that his daughter was killed.
Barnaba Kibor, a former police officer, said Kangogo killed herself in the bathroom the way they found her.
“I don’t want this issue of people saying that she was killed, that’s a very big lie. I personally confirmed that she took her own life,” he said.
“Sitaka uvumi ya watu kusema pengine aliuawa. Yule mtu anajua aliuwawa anaweza kujitokeza na atueleze, sababu ile kitu mimi niliona ni huyu msichana mwenyewe alijiua kulingana na vile tulimpata.”
According to Kibor, Kangogo had been dropped home the previous night at 10pm by a boda boda rider.
The boda boda rider didn’t know who Kangogo was, so he dropped her 50 meters away from home like any other passenger.
Additionally, he said that no gunshot was heard, Kangogo had locked herself inside the bathroom, and that it would have been impossible for her body to be brought in the event of a murder.
Her body is lying at the Iten Referral Hospital mortuary.
Kangogo was found dead inside a bathroom at her parents’ home in Nyawa village, Tambach in Elgeyo Marakwet county in what police termed as suicide.
Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Patrick Lumumba said the late cop did not speak to any of her family members before killing herself.
According to police in Iten, Kangogo’s body was discovered by her mother at around 8am on Friday morning.
She left a confession note saying that she suffered depression and lamented about her husband, whom she accused of philandering and neglecting her and her children.
The message appears it was meant for her brother as she asked him and her parents to take care of her children because “their father is too much into women”.
Kangogo asked that she be buried at her parents’ home because her husband ‘dumped’ her.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) homicide unit have been dispatched to Elgeyo Marakwet to unravel the mystery death of Kangogo.
The death of Kangogo brought to an end a 10-day search for the 34-year-old policewoman accused of double homicide.
