Calls mount for Ruto to dissolve Isiolo County Government as crisis escalates

According to former deputy governor Abdi Issa, the President should intervene, disband the county government and establish a caretaker administration

Former Isiolo Deputy Governor Abdi Issa has called for the dissolution of the Isiolo County Government by President William Ruto and the appointment of a caretaker committee following the vandalism of the Isiolo County Assembly by goons on Tuesday night.

In his statement, Abdi warned that democracy of the North Eastern county is crumbling down.

Abdi has condemned the vandalism while calling for intervention from the Head of State.

According to the former deputy governor, President Ruto should intervene, disband the county government and establish a caretaker administration.

“Democracy is crumbling in Isiolo as security forces stand by while lawlessness reigns. The judiciary has become a weak link. The town feels like a survival-of-the-fittest jungle now. It’s time for President William Ruto to step in, disband the Isiolo County government, and establish a caretaker administration,” he added.

Today’s sitting at the Isiolo County Assembly has been disrupted after goons stormed and vandalised it night, leaving behind massive destruction.

Photos posted on social media indicated that chairs and tables in the assembly plenary were broken and destroyed.

The attack came after Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) along Thika Road.

The speaker was held at the Ruaraka Police Station until early Wednesday when he was moved to an unknown location.

This is not the first time an attack has happened at the Isiolo County Assembly.

In June, armed goons stormed the assembly and vandalised vehicles of the staff at the parking following the impeachment of Governor Abdi Guyo.

Guyo survived the impeachment after Senate Speaker Amason Kingi ruled that the Assembly did not follow the proper procedure during its sittings.

“The Senate finds that the County Assembly of Isiolo did not appropriately hold sittings on the 18th of June 2025, and 26th of June 2025, to table, debate, and pass a vote on the motion for the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Governor of Isiolo County. The impeachment proceedings terminate forthwith. As a result, Abdi Ibrahim Hassan retains his seat as the Governor of Isiolo County,” Kingi ruled.
