Bashir was strangled, tortured to death, autopsy reveals

The slain Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed Mohamud was strangled and tortured to death, postmortem examination has revealed.
The autopsy report released today by his family lawyers also showed he sustained a ligature.
In what points to pro-longed torture, the body had burn injuries and trauma on the head consistent with being hit by a blunt object.
Also, his toenails were plucked out.
Homicide detectives attached to he Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI) transported his body to Nairobi overnight from Kerugoya Level Five Hospital mortuary where it had been booked as an unidentified an unknown male Somali-African adult.
The autopsy was conducted at Umash Funeral with Chief Government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor as the lead pathologist alongside two other pathologists reprsenting the family.
Bashir’s body was positively identified on Saturday by his family at the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital mortuary where it had been booked as an unidentified after it was discovered on the banks of River Nyamindi, Kirinyaga County on May 16.
According to Kirinyaga County Police commander Leah Kithei, the body was discovered by a resident from Mirera in Murinduko ward, Mwea.
“The case was then reported to police in Nairobi County and the unidentified body had been at the morgue for six days,” Kithei said.
She said the body was discovered with no clothes but with visible head injuries.
Family lawyer Charles Madowo said the US government had seconded an FBI agent to partner with DCI in the ongoing probe to unravel how the contractor was abducted and killed.
The lawyers now request the office of the DPP to institute an inquest probe to determine the circumstances of his death
