SportPesa Foundation donates medical equipment in Meru, Tharaka Nithi hospitals

SportPesa Foundation has remained committed to support communities in areas of sports and education, maternal health care and ending period poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects.
The foundation made the donation yesterday of Sh3.4 million to two health facilities in Meru County – Mikinduri Sub-County Hospital and Ankamia Dispensary, as part of its maternal health support commitment.
Mikinduri Sub-County Hospital, received 10 maternity ward beds and two incubators, while Ankamia Dispensary received five maternal ward beds and 10 maternity packs, SportPesa Foundation promising to fund the construction of a new maternity ward at the Ankamia Dispensary.
“In March this year we made the commitment to support maternal health across the country and this cause brought us to Meru County this weekend. We have seen women have to walk long distances to receive the medical care they deserve, with some not even making it to a health care facility,” said SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri.
In addition, SportPesa Foundation distributed football kits at the nearby Ankamia field.
In Tharaka Nithi County, the foundation also supported Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Chogoria Mission hospital with various equipment worth Sh1.7 million to boost its maternal unit services.
It supported the hospital by donating baby cots, incubators, neonatal equipment among others.
“Our CSR is aimed at improving maternal healthcare as part of our contribution as a corporate citizen in helping the government address high maternal deaths and infant mortality rates,” said Karauri.
“The donation will go a long way in supporting the hospital to provide quality healthcare for the people in this area.”

Chogoria Hospital is currently owned and managed by the PCEA and is a not-for-profit based organisation that provides quality healthcare services and training in Tharaka Nithi County.
In addition, SportPesa Foundation donated kits to 15 football clubs in the county under the Kits for Africa project.
“We remain committed to supporting maternal health and sports. We must support our youth to meet their potential in sports and by providing them with kits is only one way of ensuring they have the right equipment to pursue their dreams,” added Karauri.
Since SportPesa Foundation launched the maternal health pillar in March 2021, the organisation has donated medical equipment to health facilities in Nairobi, Kiambu, Bomet and now Tharaka Nithi County.
