National Security Advisor Juma, ex-IGP Boinnet appointed to National Security Council
The country’s top national security organ chaired by president William Ruto, the National Security Council (NSC) has appointed National Security Advisor Ambassador Monica Juma and former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to the security council.
Through a gazette notice dated March 9, 2023, the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced the new appointments to the NSC.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed Monica K. Juma to be the Secretary of the National Security Council.” The notice read in part.
At the same time, Koskei announced the appointment Boinnet as the Deputy National Security Advisor.
Koskei confirmed that Boinnet will serve in the role beginning March 6, 2023.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed Joseph Boinnet to be the Deputy National Security Advisor.” The notice added.
Their appointments come in the wake of spiraling insecurity posed by the bandits in the six counties in the North Rift despite the ongoing security operation.
The decision by president Ruto to pick seasoned technocrats who served in his predecessors’ Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to help bolster security strategies to tame the degenerating insecurity in the country.
At the same time, the government is grappling with the headache of mass protests led by the Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga set to kick off today in Migori.
The duo, Juma and Boinnet are expected to offer security advisories and much needed backing to Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
