ACK bishop asks Jubilee party to conduct free, fair primaries

A Murang’a Anglican Church Bishop has asked Jubilee Party to conduct free, fair and transparent party primaries to avert chaos and hatred among residents.

Bishop Julius Karanu of ACK Murang’a South Parish stressed that the party should also give nomination certificates to the winners only.

Bishop Karanu, who spoke during a consecration ceremony at ACK Gatamaiyu church in Maragua on Sunday observed that in the past, cases were reported where people who won in nominations were denied certificates leading some to move to other parties.

He stressed that party primaries should be conducted democratically and therefore urged party officials to respect the will of the people.

He said most aspirants under Jubilee Party and especially where the party is popular are also worried with some decamping to other parties out of fear of being rigged out during next month’s nominations.

Bishop Karanu noted that people would be utterly dismayed if those they will select would not be the ones to take the certificates home.

During the occasion that was attended by Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria, Karanu pleaded with those eying various elective positions to embrace mature and peaceful campaigns.

“Peace in this County should be maintained and it is my appeal to all political leaders to do their campaigns in a peaceful manner and respect the rights of the County residents,” added the Bishop.

Bishop Karanu also asked political leaders to respect churches and avoid using places of worship to spread hatred and divisions.

On his part, the governor, who was the main guest pleaded with church members to come out in big numbers and nominate their preferred candidate guided by merit.
