‘A towering leader’ tributes pour in for former Kirinyaga DG Julius Muthike
Former Kirinyaga deputy governor Julius Muthike Njiiri is dead.
His death was confirmed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who has eulogized him as a leader who embodied service, knowledge, and enterprise.
Waiguru also extended her condolences to the family and friends of the former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor.
“Kirinyaga has lost one of its founding county leaders, Hon. Julius Muthike Njiri, who served as our first Deputy Governor. He stood for service, knowledge, and enterprise. My condolences to his family, colleagues, and the people whose lives he touched,” Waiguru stated.
Kirinyaga Senator Murango Kamau eulogized Njiri as a towering leader who was dedicated to serving the people of Kirinyaga.
“Njiiri laid firm foundations upon which our county continues to grow, and his name will forever be written in the story of Kirinyaga. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who cherished him. May God grant them strength and peace during this painful time,” said the Kirinyaga senator.
The late DG served alongside the first governor, Joseph Ndathi, in 2013 after being elected on a TNA ticket.
However, their relationship was strained, with Njiri accusing Ndathi of failing to assign him duties.
Njiri also decried being denied transport and fuel allowances, and claimed his official vehicle had been withdrawn.
After leaving office, Njiri pursued further studies and earned a PhD in Business Administration from Miramar California University in 2022.
Njiru’s death comes a week after former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel Lekidime passed away.
Lempurkel died on August 24 at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The former MP was admitted to KNH after being involved in a road accident on Monday, August 18, at the Exciting area in Ong’ata Rongai along Magadi Road.
Lempurkel served as the Laikipia North MP from 2013 to 2017 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
