Uhuru warns Kenyans against fake social media accounts

In a statement dated today, October 27, 2026, Uhuru’s office, through his spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo, clarified that the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya operates only two official social media accounts, on Facebook and X, formerly Twitter.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned Kenyans against fake social media accounts purporting to represent him, his family or his political activities, insisting that only two official platforms are authorised to communicate on his behalf.

In a statement dated today, October 27, 2026, Uhuru’s office, through his spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo, clarified that the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya operates only two official social media accounts, on Facebook and X, formerly Twitter.

Both accounts use the username @4thPresidentKE.

“The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, wishes to inform the general public that the office operates only two official social media accounts,” the statement said.

The office identified its official Facebook page as Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya and its X account as Office of the 4th President of Kenya, both bearing the same username.

The clarification comes amid the proliferation of social media accounts claiming to belong to the former Head of State, some of which have published information about his political activities and other matters concerning him.

Some of the accounts have circulated unverified information, raising questions about the authenticity of statements and updates attributed to the former President.

Uhuru’s office further clarified that the former President, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and their children do not operate personal social media accounts.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution and disregard any social media accounts, pages or profiles purporting to represent or speak on behalf of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta or their children, other than the two official accounts listed above,” the statement said.

The office urged Kenyans to rely exclusively on the two official platforms for accurate information concerning the former President and his family.

“The public is urged to rely only on these official platforms for authentic information and communication concerning the former President and the former First Family,” it added.

Uhuru, who served as Kenya’s fourth President from 2013 to 2022, remains an influential figure in national politics, with his statements and political position continuing to attract public attention.

The clarification comes a day after the former President celebrated his 65th birthday yesterday,  Monday, October 26, 2026 during which he said he had forgiven Mt Kenya residents for what he described as their electoral “mistake” in 2022 when they failed to support the late ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

His latest warning seeks to distinguish his official communication channels from unauthorised accounts at a time when his political remarks continue to generate considerable interest.
