Man fined Sh24 million for trafficking 266kg of bhang
Vincent Odhiambo was convicted under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Amendment Act, 2022, following a prosecution led by Principal Prosecution Counsel Felix Namasake.
A man has been fined Sh24 million or sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of trafficking 266.2 kilogrammes of bhang in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Vincent Odhiambo was convicted under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Amendment Act, 2022, following a prosecution led by Principal Prosecution Counsel Felix Namasake.
The case arose from an incident on January 18, 2026, when Odhiambo and others were allegedly found transporting the narcotic along the Kapchorwa-Torongo Murram Road in Kamwosor Location, Keiyo South Sub-County.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the 266.2 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as bhang, had an estimated street value of Sh7.986 million and was being transported in a Toyota Fielder.
The prosecution called six witnesses in support of the case. After considering the evidence presented, the court found Odhiambo guilty and convicted him.
In determining the sentence, the court considered the large quantity of narcotics involved as an aggravating circumstance. It also considered Odhiambo’s mitigation before imposing the Sh24 million fine.
The court ordered that Odhiambo serve 10 years in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
