City lawyer Kyalo Mbobu’s morbid killing as autopsy show he was shot eight times at close range
The full scale and extent of viciousness and brutality deployed during the Tuesday evening morbid killing of city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu came to light today after an autopsy examination revealed the deceased was shot eight times in quick succession at point-blank range.
In what paints a grim picture of trained hitman on a possible assassination mission, Mbobu’s body was riddled with bullets and sustained gunshot wounds on the upper part of the body and a bullet to the spine leaving minimal or no survival chances.
He was killed along Magadi Road off Lang’ata Road in Karen South, Nairobi.
Speaking shortly after the postmortem examination conducted at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odour said Mbobu died as a result of severe injuries and over-bleeding from the gunshot wounds sustained during the shooting.
The pathologist also revealed that during the process recovered two bullets from Mbobu’s body, even as police had earlier revealed that there were missing spent cartridges from Mbobu’s vehicle.
According to the Chief pathologist, the assailants wanted to eliminate the lawyer considering the nature of the injuries and the nature in which he was killed.
“He died from excessive bleeding occasioned by the multiple shooting. We have recovered two bullets from the body,” Oduor stated.
Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday evening along Magadi Road in Karen, when a motorcycle-riding gunman approached the lawyer’s stationary vehicle and opened fire without warning.
Eyewitness accounts and police reports indicate that the attackers shattered Mbobu’s car windshield before discharging multiple rounds at the prominent legal practitioner.
The autopsy findings now confirm that eight bullets struck the victim at close range, causing severe injuries that led to massive blood loss.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has maintained its commitment to solving the high-profile murder case.
Crime scene specialists from the DCI Homicide Bureau, working alongside experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, conducted a thorough examination of the site and gathered crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Mbobu’s family has pleaded with the government to expedite investigations into his death and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Speaking after attending an autopsy of their kin, the family led by his mother man an emotional appeal as she described her son’s character and pleaded for government intervention.
“Kyalo was a good person. He was so good to me; he has done so many good things for me. I’m begging the government to intervene and do something about this,” the mother emotionally pleaded.
The victim’s younger brother, who is also a lawyer, revealed that he learned of the tragedy that befell his brother through social media.
“I learned of my brother’s passing through social media,” he stated, highlighting the devastating nature of the loss.
He further made a broader appeal for public safety, emphasizing the need for citizens to feel secure in their daily activities.
“We appeal to the government to investigate this. We need a country where we feel safe driving around and walking around. While at our daily hustles, we do not need to keep alert and wonder when someone might come and attack us,” he pleaded.
Eyewitness reports and police accounts, motorcycle-riding gunmen approached the lawyer’s stationary vehicle and opened fire without any apparent provocation.
Mbobu collapsed onto his driver’s seat as horrified motorists witnessed the brazen attack. The assailants immediately fled the scene, leaving behind a critically injured victim who would later succumb to his wounds.
Yesterday, the Senior Counsel Bar called for an expedited investigation into the cold murder of City Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.
A statement by SCB Chairperson Philip Murgor has emphasized that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to book.
“The SCB calls upon investigators to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible. Whatever the case, no stone should be left unturned by the DCI to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book,” Murgor stated.
According to the SCB, confidence will be restored in the legal profession if the law enforcement agencies view advocates as partners in the administration of justice in the investigation rather than opponents and adversaries.
Earlier, the Law Society of Kenya had also called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to immediately commence an investigation into the murder of the lawyer and prosecute those involved.
The Lawyers’ body stated that it expected the case to be investigated promptly, as it was seen when MP Charles Were was gunned down by assailants.
“We recently saw how effective our investigative agencies can be in undertaking investigations, and we anticipate that equal urgency and professionalism shall be implied in concluding this matter,” LSK President Faith Odhiambo stated.
