Grandson-in-law from hell handed 10-year jail term for raping 72-year-old ex-wife’s grandmother

A 30-years-old man who raped his ex-wife’s grandmother five years ago has been jailed for 10 years by a Makadara court in Nairobi.

He had been charged with violently raping MNK at her house in West Park area in Ruai within Njiru Sub County, Nairobi on the night of April 22, 2020.

Mutahi, then aged 25 years is accused of raping the elderly woman who was 72 years old then and has been incarceration since being arrested. The victim is now aged 77 years.

Investigating Officer in the case, Corporal Rose Muiruri of Ruai Police Station told the court that Mutahi forcibly gained entry into the MNK’s house where she lived alone after separation with her husband and raped her during the night ordeal.

According to the victim code-named MNK, she told the officers that on that fateful night, she heard footsteps outside her house at around midnight and asked who the intruder was but no one responded.

She woke up and sat on her beside briefly before she returned to sleep after the commotion outside stopped.

Two hours later, the person returned while it was raining heavily and broke the door forcing his way into the makeshift house.

MNK reached for her mobile phone hidden under the pillow and switched on the torch and was able to identify Mutahi.

Mutahi was earlier married to MNK’s granddaughter before they separated because of his violence.

He assaulted her after she identified him and went ahead to rape her.

MNK made distress calls during the ordeal but no one heard her screams because it was raining heavily and area residents lived far from each other.

Mutahi, the court heard, grabbed the elderly woman by the neck, pushed her onto the bed, threatening her with a knife then went ahead to rape her.

The convict was charged on May 2, 2020 after investigations by Cpl. Muiruri and the office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) proved the charges against him, leading to the penalty.

The convict has been granted fourteen days to appeal the sentence.
