Correctional Services PS Beacco urges Kiambu residents to register for government jobs

The PS emphasised that over 300,000 youth have already registered for the initiative across the country, and encouraged more residents from the area to step forward

Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco has called on residents of Kiambu County, including persons with disabilities, to register for the newly announced government jobs under the “Climate Works” initiative, also known as Kazi Mtaani.

Speaking at Kiamwangi Centre in Gatundu South when she distributed mobility aids and food donations, Beacco expressed concern that Kiambu County was trailing behind other regions in the job registration exercise.

“The government is offering jobs to all Kenyans, including the physically challenged. I urge everyone here in Kiambu to register and take advantage of these opportunities,” she said.

The PS emphasised that over 300,000 youth have already registered for the initiative across the country, and encouraged more residents from the area to step forward.

“We are seeing good numbers nationally, but Kiambu and especially here in Gatundu South is lagging behind. Let’s not be left out and instead grab these opportunities. The successful applicants will be doing casual labour works with for a good pay,” she added.

In addition to jobs under the Climate Works program, Beacco urged locals to consider positions in the Affordable Housing Scheme, which is also part of the government’s broader employment strategy.

During the event, Beacco distributed wheelchairs, crutches, and walking aids to persons with disabilities in the area and announced a policy shift that would end the need for repeated disability assessments.

“Once a person has been assessed and identified as having a disability, they will not need to go through the process again. There is no point in assessing someone with a permanent disability now and then,” she stated.

Representatives of persons with disabilities present at the event welcomed the support and praised the government’s decision to scrap repeated disability assessments.

“This will reduce the burden on our members. It’s a step in the right direction,” Rahab Kiranga, one representative said.

On his part, Kiamwangi Ward MCA Kung’u Smart challenged the national government to provide further support to persons with disabilities, especially in the SHA registration process.

“Many of our people are still struggling to register for the Social Health Authority due to lack of facilitation. The government must step in and help them,” he said.
