President Kenyatta warns hate speech mongers
President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned politicians against hate speech saying the government will take serious action against those spreading tribal animosity.
The President said his Jubilee Party has no place for anyone who spreads hate.
“Jubilee is a national party and it represents Kenyans of every ethnicity, religion and region,” he told the party’s parliamentary group meeting at State House gardens in Nairobi on Tuesday.
“Don’t be drawn into the politics of tribal animosity. We are very firm on this.”
The President’s warning followed the arrest of Gatundu South legislator Kpichumba Murkomen and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
Uhuru also noted his party encourages internal party democracy and thatthe PG meeting, which will be held every month, will be used as a forum to nurture democracy.
Deputy President William Ruto urged the party’s legislators to be anchors of unity.
National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale and the Senate’s Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) also addressed the meeting before heading to the IEBC for a meeting with chairman Wafula Chebukati.
They arrived after NASA chief Raila Odinga’s team had left and explained that their meeting ran longer than expected.
