South African duo in top five as 2025 Magical Kenya Open golf competition heats up
The South African pair of Jacques Kruyswijk and Deon Germishuys is the carriers of the African flag after round three of the 2025 Magical Kenya Open closed today at the Par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club.
Both finished inside the top four with Kruyswijk taking charge of the leaderboard with a strong day three finish of -14 (69/66/64=199).
His compatriot Germishyus who is ranked 392nd in the world finished with a total -10 (68/68/67=203). Germishyus was tied fourth in the board at close of round 3.
The two had a very favorable round Saturday with 33-year-old Kruyswijk not dropping any shot as he putted solid finishing his day on -7(64) with seven birdies.
This was a far cry from his previous two rounds where the world number 361 had five bogeys total.
All eyes will therefore be at the course for the duo that could be carrying the continent’s hopes for a stake at the USD 425,000 (KSh 55,037,500) prize kitty courtesy of the DP World and Kenya Open Golf Limited.
Another South African Jayden Trey Schaper was tied in 10th place with a combined score of -7(206). His day round was at +2(73) following a series of mishits in windy conditions around the course.
Meanwhile Englishman John Parry is still in touching distance with eyes on the big prize as he ended the day at position 2.
The 38-year-old world ranked 110 finished his round Saturday with a score total of -13(200).His third round however was at +2 (72). Three unlikely bogeys in holes 1, 13 & 16 affected his final tally but he still stands tall with a promise for a better day.
Frenchman Herbert Benjamin, 38, finished on -11(202) score total after another impressive round. His closing score for the day was +2 (73) after a slow day on the course but not a bad form to take into the deciding day.
The world ranked 426th had four bogeys that was disappointing but he held his head up hoping for a better finale. So far in the three rounds played, he has shot 14 birdies and one eagle.
Other players who also shone in round three included; Italian Gregorio de Leo finishing on -8(205) with a stunning 66 score on the board Saturday ahead of a crunch run in the last round tomorrow. Jacob Skov Olesen of Denmark on his part finished on -8(205) with a round three score of -1(70).Overall five players tied at position eight.
