Back to the calling as President Ruto nominate DPP Noordin Haji as NIS Spy Chief
President William Ruto has nominated the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji as the Director-General of the country’s spy agency, the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
If he sails through the vetting exercise by Parliament, Haji, a career spy operative will succeed the outgoing spymaster retired Major-General Philip Wachira Kameru who is proceeding on retirement.
“Consequently, it is notified that Excellency the President has, in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Hajl, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service.” President Ruto said.
Haji returns to the NIS after 6 years of serving as the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Kameru was appointed as Director-General in September 2014.
“Under Major General Kimeru’s watch, Kenya’s premier civilian intelligence agency has made monumental strides in the fight against terrorism, transnational crimes and other major threats to our national and regional security.” Ruto added.
Prior to appointment as DPP, Haji previously served in the National Intelligence Service as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
During his tenure as the DPP, Haji has had a cocktail of experiences recently being the collapse and withdrawals of high profile graft cases of individuals nominated and appointed to public offices.
