Police raid former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s home in search of CCTV footages
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have today raided the residence of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ in a move to obtain CCTV footages of a previous alleged raid to the former Cs’s home.
Accompanied by police officers, the detectives broke the main gate, after watchmen denied them entry.
According to Matiangi’s lawyer Danstan Omari, Matiang’i was not at home at the time of the raid.
He claimed that the officers broke the doors to Matiangi’s house and demanded access to all the rooms in the house.
“They arrested the watchman when he tried to raise alarm over the raid on former CS Matiangi’s home,” he claimed.
DCI boss Amin Mohammed in a statement stated that they had obtained a court order to allow them search Matiangi’s house.
Earlier today, the court declined to grant DCI orders to access CCTV footages of the former minister at his home.
The DCI sought orders from the court saying it wanted to identify the persons involved in the alleged raid following claims that they were police officers.
The DCI had denied that officers were engaged in the alleged raid and stated that it was looking into a case of a robbery attempt at the property.
The DCI said they are investigating a case of alleged attempted of robbery contrary to section 297 of the Penal Code.
