Sports CS Ababu Namwamba unveil TalantaHela committee

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Ababu Namwamba has today unveiled the TalantaHela Council and Committee at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

He was joined by Principal Secretaries from Youth Affairs, Education Ministry, State Department for Sports namely Ismail Maalim, Belio Kipsang and Jonathan Mueke.

The state officials launched the council and committee members to be chaired by veteran Journalist Carol Radull, creatives section chaired by Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill with committee members including former Harambee stars talisman Boniface Ambani, tik tok influencer Azziad Nasenya, actress Catherine Kamau famously known as Kate Actress and musician Rosemary Wahu Kagwi.

CS Ababu tasked the committee to come up with a plan and budget for the rollout of the programme as he called on local designers to submit the Talantahela logo with the best three creative winners set to take home Sh300,000, Sh200,000 and Sh100,000 in each competition.

He said the unveiling of the committee is part of plans of the Ministry’s revolutionary project that seeks to identify, nurture and monetise talent with a view to commercialising sports and the creative arts industry.

“The council and committee launched is set to organise long term plans for talent development…. Talantahela is an integrated programme…. The talanthela tournament set to kick off in March with fully government sponsorship to be supported by foreign embassies…. The training of coaches to manage the teams is already ongoing in Busia with impending referees training,” said Ababu.

Ababu confirmed that the country is planning to collaborate with Greece as the two countries prepare to host world safari rally WRC which shall be held in Naivasha and Voi respectively.

The council and committee chairpersons Radull and Ndambuki promised to address the plight of Kenyan talents with zero tolerance of corruption as they promised to pursue proper infrastructural developments.

They said that there is need to create an event around sports as they called on unity as they sought to develop and get talents accorded decent earnings.

“We are able and ready for the task ahead…. Finally, talent will pay…. We have so much willingness to support especially from international sector in talent growth,” concurred Ndambuki

PS Mueke said the State Department for Youth Affairs and The Arts will work with creatives through TalantaHela to grow incomes, create job opportunities for Kenyan sports and arts talents as they contribute to the Gross Domestic Product and market their works globally.

He called on stakeholders to ensure all talents are enlisted so as to create environment for talents to grow.

“We depend on partners and we plead with private sectors to invest in sports…. We call on all stakeholders and more so the media to show the world what the country got in talent,” observed Mueke.
