EPRA announce drop in fuel prices
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices that have reduced by Sh1.
Prices for a litre of Super petrol was dropped to Sh178 from Sh179.30, petrol and kerosene were both reduced by Sh1 to retail at Sh163 from Sh165 and diesel reduced by Sh2 to retail at Sh146 from Sh147.94.
“Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products and in line with government policy, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super petrol, diesel and kerosene decrease by Sh1 per litre, Sh2 per liter and Sh1 per litre respectively. The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” EPRA said in a statement.
The move was occasioned by the maintenance of fuel subsidies on diesel and kerosene and will see Kenyans pay less for fuel in the next 30 days than they did in the past despite the average landed cost of super petrol decreasing by 10.60% from $812.91 per cubic metre in August 2022 to $726.77 in September 2022
Diesel landing costs decreased by 6.87% from $949.68 per cubic metre to $884.46, while kerosene decreased by 1.82% from $899.56 to $883.22, maintaining a subsidy of Sh18.15 per liter and Sh27.47 per litre for diesel and kerosene respectively in order to cushion consumers from the high prices.
“The government will utilise the petroleum development levy to compensate oil marketing companies for the difference in cost,” EPRA stated.
In Nairobi, a litre of petrol will go for Sh178.30, diesel Sh163 and kerosene Sh146.94.
In Mombasa, super petrol will now retail at Sh175, diesel at Sh60 and kerosene at Sh144.
Kisumu and Eldoret residents will spend Sh178 for a litre of super petrol, Sh163 for diesel and Sh47 for kerosene.
Some areas including Mwingi, Nanyuki, Migori county and parts of Kisii county will however, purchase fuel as high as between Sh180 and Sh189.
