President Ruto mourn Imam Sheikh Muhammad Swalihu

President William Ruto has mourned Jamia Mosque Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Swalihu who passed away today morning after battling cancer.

Through his Twitter account, Ruto passed condolences to the Muslim faithful and the Jamia Mosque community for the loss of Sheikh Swalihu and prayed that God may grant them comfort at this painful time.

“Condolences to the family, friends and the Jamia Mosque Faithful for the loss of Imam Sheikh Muhammad Swalihu. May Allah grant you comfort at this painful time. Rest in Peace,” he wrote.

The announcement was made through Jamia Mosque’s official Twitter account.

He passed on in Nairobi after serving as Imam at the Jamia Mosque for 27 years.

“Jamia Mosque Committee Nairobi regrets to inform you of the demise of Imam Sheikh Muhammad Swalihu this morning in Nairobi. Since 1995, Sheikh Swalihu has served as an Imam at the Masjid,” it read.

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale also sent a message of condolence describing the Sheikh as a great repute and an elder.

“He was a Muslim scholar of great repute and an elder. We will dearly miss his religious counsel and pieces of advice,” Duale said.

“O Allah, forgive Sheikh Mohammad Swalilu and elevate his station among those who are guided. Send him along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Enlarge for him his grave and shed light upon him in it,” he said.

Imam Muhammad Swalihu served Jamia Mosque for 27 years and he will be buried at the Kariokor Muslim Cemetery.
