Knife wielding thug gunned down in botched robbery at Equity Bank in Nairobi

A dagger welding lone attacker was today morning gunned down after stabbing two security guards and a customer at the Equity Bank branch in Nairobi West branch.

Confirming the incident, Lang’ata sub county police commander Monica Kimani said that the assailant drew the knife after he was searched by the said security guard, stabbed him and gained access to the banking hall heading to the counter where he stabbed his second victim.

“Upon hearing the commotion police officers manning the bank rushed in to defuse the situation when the assailant charged towards the officer prompting the officer to fire a shot injuring the attacker while the other officer disarmed him,” stated the police.

According to witnesses, the man entered in to the bank’s operations manager office, threatened her and demanded money.

Police said he had attempted to grab cash that was being delivered by G4S personnel at the bank.

Police have indicated that the individual was working alone but they are still investigating if he had accomplices.

The assailant was taken to Mbagathi Hospital and is being attended to pending completion of the investigation while the two security guard and the customer are in stable condition receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.
