Former President Moi’s lawyer Juma Kiplenge is dead
Senior attorney Juma Kiplenge, who represented the late President Daniel Arap Moi in major legal battles passed away after a short illness.
Jedida Wairimu, Kiplenge’s wife confirmed his demise.
“He got sick two weeks ago and unfortunately passed away on Friday,” she stated.
Kiplenge’s body was taken to Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru as funeral arrangements are underway.
Following his passing, President William Ruto sent a message of condolence to the family, friends and relatives of Kiplenge.
He attributed Kiplenge as a patriotic Kenyan who inspired many and worked hard to make Kenya a better nation.
Kiplenge is also the founder of the Nakuru County-based firm, Kiplenge and Kurgat Advocates.
Following his death, Rift Valley lawyers sent messages of condolence to the family of the late lawyer.
Rift Valley Law Society of Kenya president Aston Muchella who described Kiplenge’s death as shocking to the legal fraternity, said the lawyer had been sick for some time before he was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital two weeks ago.
In 2019, a legal group led by Kiplenge had defended the former president in a matter involving land appropriation.
The High Court had ruled that Moi should pay a family in Eldoret Sh1 billion for damages.
In the 1990s, Kiplenge also played a significant part in the campaign for the rights of the Ogiek, a marginalized tribe in Kenya.
