The United States Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (SEHOA) Mike Hammer is excepted to tour Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa in a 2 week visit from October 3-18.

This is as part of the ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts to achieve an immediate end of antagonisms in Northern Ethiopia and support the launch of African Union-led peace talks.

“Special Envoy Hammer is returning to the region as part of ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts to achieve an immediate cessation of hostilities in northern Ethiopia and support the launch of African Union-led peace talks,” read a statement from the Office of the Spokesperson.

The special envoy will begin his tour in Kenya where he will meet government officials, international partners, NGOs, and others involved in regional efforts to build peace and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

President William Ruto had earlier on expressed his concerns over the growing scale of conflict in Ethiopia, saying that the ongoing conflict within Tigray region is triggering instability within the horn of Africa.

Hammer will then meet with South African government officials to advance efforts in support of the African Union-led mediation effort in Pretoria.

Then, he will conclude his tour in Adis Ababa where he will meet with Ethiopian government and African Union officials.

He will also meet with UN officials and other partners delivering humanitarian assistance in response to the Northern Ethiopia conflict and providing drought relief.
