Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has said that Kenyans should be patient enough and wait for the results to be announced in due time.
According to Chebukati, the commission has seven days stipulated in the constitution and the nature of the job currently at the Bomas of Kenya cannot allow him to announce the results today.
“It will be impossible for us to announce the results today, but we have seven days to give our final tally given that we have been given seven days which is stipulated in the Constitution,” Chebukati said during a media briefing at the Bomas of Kenya.
At the same time, Chebukati confirmed that they have not physically received Form 34 A from any tallying stations across the country and are awaiting the officers to deliver the much-awaited forms in due time.
The Chairman also chided the media on their preparedness to relay results on their screens urging them to catch up with the commissions tally.
“Media is a little bit behind with the tally, maybe they were not prepared for it but we shall assist you on that” Chebukati said.
While indicating that the figure projected by the media is far behind, Chebukati stated that even though the law, they are allowed 7 days to announce presidential results and they will try to finish the exercise and announce it as soon as possible.
He explained that the commission must compare and verify uploaded forms before making the result official.
