Exciting Kenya Simba edge Algeria to book date with Namibia in rugby Africa final

Kenya’s rugby 15’s national team on Wednesday evening qualified for the 2023 World Cup qualifiers final after a 36-33 narrow win over Algeria in a fixture staged at the Stade Maurice-David in Aix-En-Provence, Marseille, France.

Simbas scored six tries converting three while Algeria scored five tries converting four, with KCB’s Samuel Asati showcasing his prowess with a Man of the Match performance.

John Okoth who grabbed a brace with Eugene Sifuna, Bryceson Adaka and Darwin Mukidza were all on the scoresheet for the national team.

Mukidza converted two tries while Fijian born John Kubu converted a try scored by Sifuna.

The winner of Sunday’s final between Kenya and either Namibia or Zimbabwe will become the African champion, and book a slot in Pool A of the Rugby World Cup as Africa 1 to battle it out with the hosts France, New Zealand, Italy and Uruguay.

The finalists will feature in the repêchage tournament to be played later in France.

With one automatic qualification spot at RWC 2023 up for grabs in France, it means that the victorious team must win three matches in less than 10 days to take their place in Pool A as Africa 1 next year.

Namibia and Zimbabwe booked their place in the semis on Friday evening courtesy of 71-5 and 38-11 wins over Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast respectively.
