Omanyala set to miss commonwealth trials ahead of trip to Italy, Germany

Kenya’s sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala is set to travel to Italy for the Castiglione Della Pescara International Meeting scheduled for this Sunday.

As a result, Africa’s fastest man will not compete in the national trials for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games that will kick off this weekend at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi.

Omanyala, who is fresh from winning the men’s 100m race at the Kip Keino Classic, will however earn a direct ticket to the global tournament by virtue of his mind-blowing performances in the just-concluded event.

Once done with the Italy tour, the police officer will shift his focus to Germany ahead of the 61st Ostrava Golden Spike, the World Athletics Continental Golf Tour event on May 31 in the Czech Republic.

With a busy schedule ahead of him Omanyala has been booked to race in two more races in Germany on May 25 and 28 before the Ostrava Golden Spike.

Omanyala will also meet Jamaican Legend Yohan Blake who the fast-rising star regards as his role model.

Blake, a legend in his own rights, has been regarded as the world’s second-fastest ever man in the 200 metres.

Africa’s fastest man will also renew his rivalry with South Africa’s Akani Simbine whereby Omanyala said he will be working on his transition to top-end speed.

Omanyala will then return to the country to prepare for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships programmed from June 8 to 12 at Cote d’Or National Sports Complex, Reduit, Mauritius.

This year, the 26-year-old ran a world-leading time of 9.85 seconds when clinching the Kip Keino Classic title at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
