Autopsy complete on 17 bodies recovered from River Yala

Post-mortem exams on seventeen bodies recovered from River Yala has been completed, eight are pending.

However, Kenyans will have to wait to get full details on the cause of their deaths.

Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor said some of the bodies have decomposed to a degree they can hardly be identified.

“Some of them are seriously decomposed in that they are fully skeletons, some are flesh which are decomposed but we found some three which are very fresh,” he said.

Oduor said their hopeful that they shall be done by today.

Two families have been camping at Yala sub-county hospital mortuary for days in a bid to identify the bodies of their loved ones.

The families have been barred from collecting the bodies until post-mortem was conducted on the bodies to authenticate the cause of their deaths by government pathologists.

By Wednesday, the number of families that had identified their loved ones stood at three as police called for more families with missing persons to turn up and identify the bodies.

On Tuesday, two more bodies were retrieved from Yala river raising more questions about the mysterious killings and the culprits behind them.

The two raised the number of bodies recovered from the river in yet to be resolved murders to twenty-five.

The bodies were recovered even as the hospital’s management advised authorities to transfer bodies to Siaya County Referral Hospital citing the capacity of its morgue had been overstretched.

Medical Superintendent Dr Bruno Okall said the hospital’s morgue could not accommodate more bodies.
