President Uhuru to meet security chiefs amid terror threats alert

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet with security chiefs at State House, Nairobi amid terror threats alert.

According to State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, they are to discuss the country’s preparedness for the campaigns and coming elections in August.

“The meeting will be attended by Regional County Commissioners, police commanders, intelligence officials and County Commanders,” she said.

The President request comes following the gruelling period amid growing of terror attacks in parts of Lamu County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I had earlier stated the country is safe and ready to hold the polls and added unlike the past when there were tribal groupings which were political there is no such trend.

Matiangi also said terrorism remains a threat in the country and urged the public to continue being vigilant.

He blamed bribery, handouts and unmet promises on electoral violence witnessed in parts of the country.

He blamed politicians giving out the handouts and monetary promises that are not met for the violence.

Additionally, Several European embassies in Nairobi have issued terror alerts and urged their nationals living in Kenya to avoid public places.

The French Embassy yesterday warned that the persistent threats against Western nationals in Kenya poses a real risk.

The embassy said that the terrorists are targeting public places frequented by foreign nationals, including restaurants, hotels, places of leisure and shopping malls especially in Nairobi.

“People in Kenya are advised to exercise extreme vigilance and avoid frequenting these public places in the coming days, including this weekend,” the alert reads.

The National Police Spokesman Bruno Shiosho has confirmed the country’s national security has been heightened following the terror threat warning .

He has urged members of the public remain vigilant and to volunteer information to authorities, reassures safety of all.
