Lembus Council of Elders fault Baringo Governor over ‘skewed distribution of resources’

The Lembus Council of Elders have slammed Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi over what they termed as skewed distribution of resources and they now want former NCIC commissioner Rev. Lawerence Bomett to replace him.

Speaking to the press after a day-long meeting at the Lembus Cultural Centre in Poror, Eldama Ravine the elders led by Chairman Joseph Leboo and his deputy Joseph Tiong’ik said that they are yet to reap the benefits of devolution.

“What we have only seen is hiring of new pre-school tutors but when you talk of tangible development such as infrastructure we have not seen that here,” Leboo said.

They accused Governor Cheboi for allegedly failing to appoint any member of the Lembus Community to his administration saying that he was perpetuating discrimination against the community perpetrated by previous governments.

The area, is said, is the wealth basket of Baringo county since it boasts of big natural forests and a source of water for big rivers such as Perkera River. “We are leading when it comes to agriculture because God blessed us with fertile land and good rainfall,” he explained.

The more than 100 elders from both Eldama Ravine and Mogotio constituencies lamented that all the plum positions in Baringo county have gone to individuals from Baringo North, Baringo Central and Tiaty constituencies.
