Embu County Commissioner Esther Maina has called for respect to women seeking political seats and urged their men counterparts to respect them as we approach the campaign period.
The County Commisioner noted that she has received several cases of incidents where women aspirants have been attacked as they pursue their political interests saying that she will not tolerate such behaviors.
Maina said that women just like men have the same opportunities at all levels of society and therefor should be accorded the same respect given to men in all aspects.
She said that gender violence is a criminal offense and will be dealt with according to the law adding that she will not rest while women are undermined and harassed by men.
The county commisioner noted that women have the same brain as men and therefore they have the right to be listened to just like men in matters politics since leadership is all about the brain and not physical appearance.
Speaking during a leaders’meeting at kangaru on the outskirts of embu town, maina also threatened to bar leaders who are said to be keeping identity cards of the electorates claiming that thry will register them as voters so that they can be voted for.
She said that it is illegal foa any aspirant to keep identity cards and voters cards and she will wok in collaboration with the IEBC to ensure that such leaders are bared from vying the elective posts they are apsiring for.
Maina has directed the national government adaministrators to investigate and give a report of those involved adding that Kenyans are free to keep their own documents without manipulation.
