Clergy Association commends President Kenyatta for revising containment measures

The Church and Clergy Association of Kenya(CCAK) has commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for revising the containment measures in the 5 Counties that had been place under lockdown.

CCAK Chairperson Bishop Hudson Ndeda said the decision to enforce stringent containment measures among them cessation of movement in and out of the five Counties which had been declared disease infected, proved worth the sacrifice.

“We welcome the partial opening of places of worship. In future we expect broader consultations on matters involving the Church to mitigate the negative impacts closure of Churches has on members and Kenyans at large,” said Ndeda.

On School reopening, Ndeda urged parents and teachers to ensure the safety of the children by reminding them on preventive measures.

He also emphasized on the safety of the Grade 4 pupils who will reopen School in July saying their well-fare must be safe guarded.

Further, Ndeda urged politicians to learn from the Church and conduct their meetings online saying political rallies shouldn’t be encouraged.

He added that the Church will continue to observe the laid down protocols such as maintaining social distance, wear facemasks and sanitizing to support the Government’s efforts in the fight against Covid-19.

On March 30,2021, CCAK called upon the government to reconsider its decision to close churches in the disease infested zoned Counties.

Ndeda said that the phased reopening of church had worked well arguing that the Church had religiously observed the protocols set by the Ministry of Health.

“The political gatherings witnessed in the country in the last few months escalated the spread of the virus while the governments failure to monitor its borders facilitated the entry of the new variant,” said Ndenda.

Ndeda wanted the government to review its Public Oder no. 2 of 2021 on Covid-19 saying the church shouldn’t bear the blunt of other peoples’ mistakes.
