Twenty nine inmates at Isiolo G.K Prison were yesterday enrolled as voters during the last day of the exercise in Kenyan correctional facilities.
According to the officer in Charge Hassan Ibrahim, the twenty nine comprise of 19 remandees and 10 prisoners who could avail their original Identity cards. He said that most of the inmates could not be eligible for registration as they had no identity cards, or had left them at home.
Mr Ibrahim said that his office had contacted their kin to avail the crucial document earlier but the effort proved futile, forcing them to settle on the few that were ready.
Isiolo North Constituency elections Coordinator Wario Ibrahim Ali who led the exercise said that the IEBC officers first established if the inmates had been registered earlier before they were jailed to avoid double registration, adding that those who had been registered elsewhere could only be helped by transferring their polling station to the facility.
